Last week, we packed up the Mitsubishi Outlander and headed over an hour away to Morgan State University. My niece is a high school senior and she was interested in attending their open house so she could learn more about what MSU has to offer. Being from a small island, none of us are accustomed to long drives so these college road trips are A LOT. What sucked was the weather. Maryland has such bi-polar weather. The temperature literally dropped a day before our trip. It was windy, chilly, and rainy. Not the best weather to travel in. I had so many ideas for pics so we could remember the moment but the weather simply wouldn’t allow it.
Two tips for college road trips:
- Make sure you have lots of snacks and toys/games for any little ones you’re traveling with and
- Write down a list of questions you’d like answered during the many sessions available.
2017 Mitsubishi Outlander
How did we get there? In the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. The Outlander is a compact SUV that seats 7. My favorite features of this SUV are the Fast Key entry, rearview camera, blind spot warning, and the adaptive cruise control.
The Good
- Rearview camera
- Great on gas. I didn’t have to fill up the entire week I had the SUV which was surprising after our drive to and from Baltimore.
- Electronic fold-in side mirrors
- Back-up camera
- Distance recognition system. This safety feature suggests a comfortable driving distance if you’re too close to the vehicle in front of you.
- Fast key entry system. I always appreciate the ability to lock and unlock the doors without having to dig around in my purse to find the keys.
The Bad
- I’m not fond of how close the push-to-start button is to the windshield wipers.
- A/C controls. I could be wrong but there’s no way to set the temperature digitally. The only way to set them is by “guess-timating” via the knobs which have a few numbers and ticks on them.
All In All
All in all, the vehicle is great for a Mitsubishi. Personally, I feel there are still some tweaks to be made to make Mitsubishi the top brand amongst its competitors. This is my 3rd time driving a Mitsubishi, and I prefer it over the Mirage. If I was in the market for a Mitsubishi, I’d take this vehicle over the Mirage even if I didn’t need the extra space.
Price: SEL starts at $25,495
