Can you believe it’s practically May? It seems like I was just recovering from my trip back home to St. Croix. Next month is filled with so many events. My niece is preparing for her high school graduation, senior prom, and 20-something dance recitals. So that means we have to make sure she has her dresses, makeup, jewelry, hair, shoes, and everything in between – not including college – ready for the days to come. We have to start planning our family vacation and making sure all the t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted. It can extremely overwhelming but I know we’ll get it together in time. Anyway, let’s get into this review.

2017 Mazda Mazda6

Last week, I got the opportunity to test drive the 2017 Mazda Mazda6 I Grand Touring in Machine Gray Metallic. This was my first time driving a Mazda sedan. Though this was my first time driving one, I always found the Mazda3 (hatchback) to be a cute, stylish car. My first impression? I loved the color, the body style, and the leather seats.

The Good

• Push to start button. Yes!!! They moved the push to start button. No more breaking my nails when trying to start the car. It has been moved to the top of the dashboard to the left of the Mazda Infotainment screen.
• Lane assist. Drivers have the ability to set the alert function to vibrate. In this mode, the wheel lightly vibrates, when you drift out of your lane.
• Adaptive headlights. This is perfect for driving dark roads at night. The lights automatically switch between high and low beam settings. High beam when you’re alone on the road and low beam when it detects vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
• Rain-sensing windshield wipers.
• Keyless entry system. No need to fumble for your keys. Once your keys are near you, simply press the button on the car door, and it locks or unlocks.
• Power moonroof
• Blind spot monitoring.
• Navigation System. The navigation system has 2-D and 3-D options. In 3-D mode, you can see tall buildings and it even showed me where speed cameras were.
• Heated rear seats. The smudges on the controls in the pic below? Allow it. My nieces were having a ball in the back while eating Chick-Fil-A 🙂

• Back-up camera
• Distance recognition system. This safety feature suggests a comfortable driving distance if you’re too close to the vehicle in front of you.

The Bad

• Without sport mode, it feels like I’m not going anywhere. Acceleration is slow unless sport mode is engaged. I kept the vehicle in sport mode most of the time. This is just my preference.
• Slow to decelerate in sport mode. In sport mode, coming to an abrupt stop feels weird. You can literally feel the vehicle switching gears as it tries to slow itself down.

All In All

All in all, I really enjoyed this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone in the market of purchasing a sedan. Outside of the sport mode issue, it’s an amazing vehicle.

Price: Sport starts at $21,945; Touring starts at $24,195; Grand Touring starts at $30,695. The vehicle I test drove had a few optional equipment: cargo mat, gray paint, door sill trim plates, and the GT premium package which brought the total MSRP to $34,350.

Transmission: The Sport and Touring trims are available in both automatic and manual transmissions, however, the Grand Touring is only equipped with automatic transmission.
